Non-existant accounts
- Make the request logged in using the old account and sign your request. Do not create the new account yourself.
- Ensure the requested username does not exist.
Account usurpation for SUL:
- First log in with your present username in order to place your request. If you don't have one, create it. Renames will not be approved if you post your request not logged in.
- After your request:
- If the user hasn't specified a contact email and did not edit in the last 6 months the usurpation will be granted immediately, otherwise the user will be contacted and the bureaucrats will wait 1 week for the answer.
- If the user refuses the bureaucrats will not override his decision.
To add a request for username change or usurpation for SUL, use the following code at the bottom of #Username changes requests section:

- Check back periodically to see whether additional information is required. Do not be surprised if you suddenly cannot log in to your old account; this merely indicates that your request has been fulfilled and that you should use your new name from now on.
