How about this as a logo? --Timrem (talkcontribs)

    Our test Wikipedia logo

    I support you and your logo -- 23:19, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

    I'm in favour. Do it! =] —Nightstallion (?) 09:35, 13 June 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    I would, but thats an admin's dev's (thanks AmiDaniel) job, which I'm not :( Timrem (talkcontribs) 19:01, 13 June 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Looks fine to me; however, it's actually somethin admins can't do--only devs, and I'm not sure they really care too much about the aesthetic aspects of the test wiki, but you can try. AmiDaniel 01:46, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Support - better than using the regular Wikipedia logo incase someone gets to this Wiki on accident. 23:03, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I had an even better idea... You all know the inverted version of the Wikipedia logo, which is mainly black? The one used in the "editors -- vandals----which side are you on?" image? I'd like the black version to be the logo of Test-Wikiepdia. What do you say? —Nightstallion (?) 15:20, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I like it too, and I just uploaded version D. It's the black version without the black backgruond (unsightly IMO in the top left corner of a white webpage) and with a couple of tweaks to make it look right. --james(talk) 16:33, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    Perfect! Don't forget to vote yourself. ;)Nightstallion (?) 18:23, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Which do you like best as the logo for this Wiki? Feel free to add more. If you don't want a change from the original Wikipedia logo, you can vote that way, too.

    Vote now:

    1. Keep this. It's te only one which does not look completely ugly to me, and there is an eyecatching difference to "real" Wikipedia. 17:48, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • A suitable logo, as it's still a test *Wikipedia*, but not a normal one. I like the inversion very much. :)Nightstallion (?) 19:03, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, this one looks good. The black background was what I didn't like about the inverted one. Maybe we can change it to say "WIKIPEDIA The Test Encyclopedia" :) Timrem (talkcontribs) 20:35, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Voting for myself (and I'm now logged in...) *cough* --james(talk) 03:02, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I like this one, but I think it'd be better if it had some indication that this is a test wiki and not just Wikipedia with a different logo. Maybe change "Wikipedia The Free Encyclopedia" to "Test Wiki" or something, or maybe like proposal E. -- w:User:Snaxe920
I changed the text a little (see above). I couldn't get the anti-aliasing exactly right, but I've got the font on my iBook if you want a different change. --james(talk) 15:43, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • Yeah, this one looks good. The black background was what I didn't like about the inverted one. Timrem (talkcontribs) 19:47, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

A point that's been raised by LBMixPro is that it should read "The Test Wiki" instead of "The Test Encyclopedia", as it really isn't an encyclopedia at all. Could you change that, please? Keep the red, though. :)Nightstallion (?) 06:53, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
      Done in C3 :) --james(talk) 02:59, 20 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    2. Yes, I think the logo is more beautiful!

I love it because it reverses the colors of the logo is wikipedia and superseding the word free with the word test

    3. Prefer this one. Pedant 18:04, 23 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    • This one is the one I proposed, it shows that it is a test wiki without writing "TEST" over the logo. Knowing that this wiki is meant to test things that aren't quite ready to go live but will evenually, I seen the blending between white and black to work --LBMixPro 01:45, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Mh. It looks a bit too crude to me, personally. —Nightstallion (?) 06:10, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
      It's meant to seem crude, as it's a test Wikipedia, for stuff that isn't fine-tuned yet. Dbmag9 19:17, 13 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
But it's not for "testing" projects, but simply for testing software changes, and as such, it doesn't make sense to me to have a crude logo. A simple inversion of the Wikipedia logo looks better IMO. —Nightstallion (?) 09:07, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I like this one. I really am against putting TEST in big letters on top of it, but this seems nice. Also make sure the background's transparent. Dbmag9 08:05, 8 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's already transparent, I'm using it in my monobook.css. However, I couldn't find the matching font for the "Text Wiki" part. I notified User:Nohat at en about it though. --LBMixPro 06:52, 9 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Completely useless[edit]

Quote from Main Page: "Changes to the code will generally appear here a few minutes before they appear on the rest of the Wikimedia wikis." So what? Users shall know when there is a change in the code, then have a few minutes time to test it here, then have to hurry to report a bug (perhaps with only a few seconds left) to avoid having a buggy version at Wikipedia? Changes should be at least tested some days, not only a few minutes. -- 16:47, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Users don't test changes here, developers do. The Wikimedia setup is different to any development system we have, and some differences are subtle and hard to reproduce. Developers should test changes here before they sync the files and affect the rest of the wikis. -- Tim Starling 12:19, 2 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I agree that "a few minutes" is misleading, though-- I'm sure it's a bit longer than this. Perhaps it should be changed to "a short time"? Dar-Ape 04:14, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Link Here[edit]

Is there any way to link to here from another wiki? For example, if I want to link to the latin wikibooks I can type b:la: (which produces b:la:). However, typing w:test doesn't seem to work (w:test:). -Daniel (m:User:Dbmag9)

Looks like 'Test' should work. See this page - m:User:Harry Wood 23:11, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    It still doesn't, I'm afraid. —Nightstallion (?) 19:45, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    Yes it doesn't work. Matthew hk 06:57, 8 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You're not supposed to link here. It's not a production site, it's not a site which the public need to know about in general. If, for some ridiculous reason, you have to, use a normal URL. Rob Church 15:18, 9 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You can interwiki test now Use "testwiki:" and you're good to go. Koavf 04:22, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Community Portal[edit]

Is there going to be some kind of community portal thing going on here? I know there isn't really a community, but there should be somewhere other than here where people can put forward questions, and get an explanation of this site. Dbmag9 16:11, 9 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    I concur. —Nightstallion (?) 19:45, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Now open, the Community Portal! Timrem (talkcontribs) 18:18, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Can a link to the new communty portal be put on the left side navigation, where people can easily find it, like it is on the other wikis?-- 04:25, 9 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Who deleted it? Why? Where are we to find the voting results now? 17:30, 9 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It seems that Rob Church deleted it. I would ask him to restore it, BUT he's really really pissed at Wikimedia right now. So can any admins please restore it? --LBMixPro <Speak|On|It> 03:53, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's not red-linked anymore, but the previous content is gone. Can it be restored? -- 03:29, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No need, the voting results have been restored, and there isn't really supposed to be a Community here, anyway. Timrem (talkcontribs) 20:54, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

How to test without Template? Matthew hk 06:54, 8 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry if someone answered me, but Wikipedia:Community Portal was erased and my question with its possible answer is lost. However...

I do not know if it's an error or not, but in the Test Wikipedia I could check comments in subpages talks are not noticed like in user pages:

You have new messages (differences in last edit)

Something similar. When adding a comment in a subpage like "User Talk:Foo/Test", Foo has not any message when logging in.

I also want to say I created a guest account, to let unregistered users experiment editing, moving, button bar... with same purposals that es:Usuario:Invitado (pybalo) (which is not mine, is from Pybalo) and maybe some more, like talk editings (I needed two accounts to do that test). If it causes any annoyance, you can block it and refer to me. Thank you.--Nethac DIU 21:36, 10 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Favicon.ico change?[edit]

Kudos on the logo, very recognizable, both for what it is and what it is not. Could the w:favicon also be changed to a negative image? Almost did a Bad Thing(tm) and edited on the wrong site. Sure, I could have looked at the gigantic 155x135 logo, but no, I was fixed on the 16x16 one as I flipped thru my Firefox tabs. :) A sample is here, but it wouldn't let me upload an .ico file. — MrDolomite | Talk 04:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

We already use that favicon for the secure server. I don't really think a favicon change is worth the effort (a server admin needs to do it, I think). --james(talk) 12:00, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks, I had no idea there was a secure server for wikipedia, let alone that it used that icon. :) With that being the case, I was going to use secure server for test to help me self-disambiguate, but it turns out there isn't one for test.  :(  — MrDolomite | Talk 16:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Are you sure? Then what is this? Timrem (talkcontribs) 23:24, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Aha, what a difference having the correct URL makes. :) Thx — MrDolomite | Talk 03:29, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Insert eye-rolling remarks here. robchurch | talk 02:32, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Test pages[edit]

there are countless test pages out there (created by bots and etc), should they be deleted? --Cat out@ 00:24, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Quote from Tim Starling "It's a waste of time and effort to delete a page on a test wiki, unless you happen to be testing deletion." Timrem (talkcontribs) 01:49, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
True I suppose. However people really should be testing on existing pages and not random sakjaskjf's... :/ --Cat out@ 02:08, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    The again I dont really care. :) --Cat out@ 02:40, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Strange code[edit]

    Why nowiki tags generate a code like UNIQ3122384d20612827-nowiki-00000001-QINU?--Nethac DIU 11:01, 22 October 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This will occur on any page using {{DISPLAYTITLE:Some title}}. I think it's a bug in a possible future update which allows a page to be found at one location but be titled something else. Timrem (talkcontribs) 18:55, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    Oh. Thank you.
And yes, DISPLAYTITLE changes the visible title with no changing the URL direction. I saw it before - I don't know why it fails now. The header of this page, with DISPLAYTITLE would be:

    Some title[edit]

    <h1>Some title</h1> (*)

Link to this page as [[Talk:Main Page]]

With the grey warning just under the title, I don't know how did that space appear.--Nethac DIU 16:06, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

*Editing note: Original header converted to text, as it was causing Contents to be misnumbered.

Where is the main page/village pump etc?[edit]

    eh? Testing man 20:05, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Main Page is here (for a better version, see here), and there is no village pump because this is more a place for developers to test changes to the MediaWiki software than it is a community of any sort (see WP:NOT). Timrem (talkcontribs) 04:59, 10 December 2006 (UTC)Reply[reply]
