Talk:Main Page/Archive 2

    From Wikipedia!

So is this wiki for test editing? Jj137 01:42, 11 November 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No, this wiki is for Developers to test their PHP code without breaking all the Wikimedia wikis. --Cmelbye (talk) 00:26, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
    So, that means something? Akira-otomo (talk) 20:08, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, it does :) It will take too long to explain though ;p If you're looking to edit articles, etc..., then you may wish to visit a Wikipedia instead. AGK (talk) 23:16, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, about that -- this guy got me blocked on Wikipedia. Akira-otomo (talk) 14:07, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Unfortunately, the Test Wiki has no influence nor activity on/in matters on sister projects. If you wish to be unblocked on that project, you must follow the block appeals system on that project. AGK (talk) 16:16, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, I know. But I thinki I've cracked what this is all about; is it to see if you want the WikiMedia Software or if you should upgrade or something? Akira-otomo (talk) 16:07, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The people who develop the MediaWiki software test out code here instead of on, say, Wikipedia. If they break anything here, it's no big deal, whereas if they take the #9 most popular website offline because they broke it, that's a big deal. Regular editors and readers really have no need to edit here at all. It's not to test bots, not to test sysop tools, nor to develop articles on. Kylu 05:18, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

    Main page needs a cleanup[edit]

Small issue: The main page has "Kick azzzz" at the bottom. How did that get there? Tuvok[T@lk/Contribs] 22:40, 29 November 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    How it works?[edit]

How it works? I would test the validation funtion, and I have more than 50 contributions, but I can do nothing. So, how could I test this new function?--EL (talk) 17:19, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Special:Userrights/EL Splarka (talk) 22:08, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I see it's been used on here. How do you use it? Maximillion Pegasus (talk) 01:56, 9 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    See en:WP:Twinkle Kylu 01:31, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, should have been more specific. I meant how do you use it on a wiki other than en? Maximillion Pegasus (talk) 02:43, 10 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Sister Projects[edit]

The links to sister projects on the main page all link to the English projects (en.wik*.org) . Perhaps, they should instead link to www.wik*.org.--Brett (talk) 15:34, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Why is this hosted at test.wikipedia?[edit]

Hosting issues Why isn't this hosted at test.wikimedia? The software changes implemented here affect all Wikimedia projects equally, not just Wikipedia, right? Koavf (talk) 21:17, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I was wondering the same thing. The name of this site seems misleading, because it is nothing at all like Wikipedia. 95j (talk) 22:55, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Link to flagged revision test wiki?[edit]

Should there be a link to the flagged revision test wiki? I googled "test wiki" and reach here instead. Andjam (talk) 05:40, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    poop poop?[edit]

The notice sentence We will not give admin rights to users who just want to test SUL since it is creating a couple of problems now! isn't needed anymore, right? I think someone could remove it. --Marcl1984 (talk) 15:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Main Page[edit]

May wish to change the Main Page to remove the bit about not giving adminship to test SUL, as it is now publically avaliable (sp?). Microchip08 (talk) 15:48, 30 May 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Move / Rename image[edit]

According to bug 709, a proposal to allow image renaming was submited in May. So, I came here to test this function on this image, but there is no "move" button or anything else for me. [sad ;( ]

Is this function working but for admin only ? Yug (talk) 18:47, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, user:Bryan from commons noticed me that you may need tester for this function, and you need to grant them sysop rights. I think wikigraphists from the graphic labs may be interested to test this function as soon as possible, to allow it to work on commons earlier ;)
Yug (talk) 20:00, 26 September 2008 (UTC) [I'm myself interested to test this function - I was admin on commons and wiki-fr before my wikibreak]Reply[reply]

    How to run tests?[edit]

I geting robots prevention, but i want to test AI robotics. X54321 (talk) 19:41, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wikipedia:Copyrights needs attention, it is very inaccurate--Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 13:25, 25 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I have blanked Wikipedia:Copyrights so it will not mislead people.--Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 13:40, 25 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Regarding being able to test administrator tools.[edit]

I can see one fundamental flaw. If someone was to request administrative privilidges on here, that person is bestowed with the latter, they follow up by indefinately banning God. That would be plain irresponsibility in my opinion.--Launchballer (talk) 12:22, 1 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Proposed merger[edit]

I propose we merge Wikipedia:What Test Wiki is not, Wikipedia:Administrators, and Wikipedia:Bureaucrats with the main page.--Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 02:15, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    My reasoning behind this is
    • All 3 pages are short enough, and will probably not get much bigger
    • "What test wiki is" is listed on the main page
    • This would increase their visibility, which is especially important with "what test wiki is not".
    • There's no reason not to, or at least none that I can think of.

    Noindex all pages?[edit]

Articles on testwiki show up on Google searches. I just deleted Sri Gokilambal Thirukameswarar temple; the testwiki page was first in a Google search of "Gokilambal Thirukameswarar temple". Should/can we noindex all pages on testwiki? Shubinator (talk) 02:53, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Provided this would not interfere with the developers tests, I agree. If it would I am undecided.--Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 15:33, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Main Page should mention [[Talk:Main Page/Archive 2 is the place to discuss this wiki

    As title. Jidanni (talk) 21:43, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Why anchors not encoded?[edit]

    Compare the URLs for

    1. A
    2. B

Why does the latter have dots, but not the former? Jidanni (talk) 21:43, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Testing an extension[edit]

Forgive me if this request is outside of the scope of this project. Also since I have only use this project once to submit a bug report, forgive me if this is the wrong page to ask but... I was wondering if it was possible to install the Counter extension. I wanted to test out its suitability for using on Wikibooks. Thanks for your time. This sentence: "This site is a 'testing area' of sorts, which allows code to be tested in an environment, without damaging other wikis", should be changed to "This site is a 'testing area' of sorts, which allows code to be tested in a controlled environment, without damaging other wikis". 95j (talk) 02:11, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Is testwiki going to get Vector skin as its default on 25 August, like the rest of WMF wikis? This, that and the other (talk) 05:24, 21 August 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
