Sysop, steward[edit]

Please can I have these user rights?? --Kelsington (talk) 12:11, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Steward is not possibly here, and please give a specific reason for sysops access and another wiki where you are sysop. (As a local beaurocrate who is active at the moment,) ABF (talk) 13:39, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually, steward is (or rather, was) possible due to a bug in Userrights, and did do what it said. But I immediately reported it to brion who fixed that little "bug". Splarka (talk) 22:56, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
No, I can't sysop you anyhow, you need a bureaucrat like ABF. I was a bureaucrat briefly, but due to the above bug in userrights, I was able to set myself steward to unset bureaucrat. Splarka (talk) 22:56, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

for ProteinBoxBot[edit]

Per the switch to the new pre-processor (see m:Migration_to_the_new_preprocessor#Expected_differences), the trick of passing template parameters via {{!}} no longer works. This was actually a bug in the old preprocessor, which can be verified by the fact that it only worked if the template argument was inside a parserfunction. On {{self}} for example it would not work for the second argument, only 2 and beyond, which were inside #if.

Furthermore, a bot should probably not be using {{self}}. It would probably be best to replace all instances of:

{{self|GFDL-no-disclaimers|cc-by-sa-3.0{{!}}[[Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation]]}}

with:

{{GFDL-no-disclaimers}}
{{cc-by-sa-3.0|[[Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation]]}}

Would you be willing to fix ProteinBoxBot's uploaded images to no longer break with the new preprocessor (as per the above suggestion)?

Can I test the permission?? --G Bowker (talk) 12:13, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

Thanks for deleting that vandal's garbage. Can I trouble you to semiprotect my user page and talk page? I fight a lot of vandalism on en.wiki, and this is not the first time my pages on other projects have been vandalized. I don't come here much, so there is no good reason to leave me a message on my talk page here. If I ever start using test.wp more, I'll request that my talk page be unprotected.

Thanks again!

Hi[edit]

I'm having a problem on my own wiki, the javascript isn't working as it should be for User:Sunwell5/Common.js/interlinker.js - a version of m:MediaWiki:Common.js/interlinker.js. Please can you help me with this, thanks! --Sunwell5 (talk) 22:33, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

What symptoms? are the DBs not named that? are the URLs wrong? Splarka (talk) 22:55, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
The DBs are named that, the URLs are correct, but they still get redlinks! --Sunwell5 (talk) 08:15, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Try User:Sunwell5/Common.js/interlinker.js now. per these changes. Splarka (talk) 08:40, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Based on the html you gave me, this works for me (note that you have to put in database names that actually appear in the link texts). If it doesn't work, you might have javascript errors blocking it from even executing. I can't help you with those unless you can find them in your console. Splarka (talk) 10:08, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

However, on my localhost install they are in the format http://en.wikisite.org/index.php?title= - with en.wikisite.org being a virtual host. See User:Sunwell5/sandbox000 --Sunwell5 (talk) 12:28, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Gadget-EvilUnicodeConverter.js[edit]

Hi Splarka. The EvilUnicodeConverter script seems broken since a few weeks: it doesn't convert hexadecimal values to Unicode anymore when saving. As it's a very useful tool, I'd like to know if it can be hacked to work as it was intended to. (It even gives an error message when saving pages: “Your edit has been rejected because your client mangled the punctuation characters in the edit token. The edit has been rejected to prevent corruption of the page text. This sometimes happens when you are using a buggy web-based anonymous proxy service.”, I had to disable the script to save this message on testwiki) – A2 (talk) 07:45, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

The specific error you see is the normal operation if it fails to convert back to normal unicode before save. It corrupts the edit token and fixes it when saving. It is sort of a safety feature. The problem seems to be that addClickHandler() has been disabled. I have not kept up with the changes to core MediaWiki JS, so you will have to find someone who can migrate old scripts to whatever new stuff they use. Splarka (talk) 01:43, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
I asked for a solution on frwiki JS project and it's quite easy : addClickHandler(A,B); is now Jquery $(A).click(B); in our case addClickHandler(btn,convertEvilUnicodeChars); becomes $(btn).click(convertEvilUnicodeChars);. (There is a migration guide here for deprecated JS functions if you need it.) Thanks a lot for your quick answer, and thanks again for this very useful tool! – A2 (talk) 16:16, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
