About[edit]

I am a Wikipedia researcher, bot-wrangler, and a host at the Teahouse. Info on how Teahouse came about, and why it is the way it is, available here and here.

I also run HostBot, a bot that performs certain repetitive tasks on the Teahouse, and sends invites to new editors. I occasionally review research projects for RComm and contribute to the research newsletter.

Lately, I've mostly written about Seattle architects and architecture.

I have an PhD in Human Centered Design & Engineering from the University of Washington where I studied, designed and evaluated online collaboration. Much of my research focused on Wikipedia, but I have also worked on other open-source volunteer collaboration platforms, like this one. My dissertation was on WikiProjects

I have a BA in philosophy and classics, with a focus on political philosophy. I am a voracious and omnivorous reader, and a passionately amateurish musician. In my (ever-diminishing) spare time, I also enjoy trail running, hiking and a good game of racquetball.

I currently work as Community Research Lead in the Wikimedia Foundation's Grantmaking department. I sometimes edit this wiki under User:Jmorgan (WMF) in the course of that work.
